The University of Kansas Center for Technology and Commercialization (KUCTC) has substantial time and talent dedicated to establishing intellectual property protection and an effective technology commercialization operation. It has done this in part by working with numerous industry partners in Kansas as well as the larger Midwest Region. By creating and fostering a climate of entrepreneurism in the state, KUCTC and others, have seen dramatic growth in the number of potential start-up management personnel and infrastructure organizations with an eye on helping new high-tech companies flourish. Nurturing this interest in economic development, entrepreneurism and technology transfer facilitates the process of getting technology out of the lab and into the marketplace.
KUCTC has found that Kansas University and KUMC students, in varying stages of their education are wonderful catalysts and resources in the process of technology development and commercialization. From PhD students in Engineering or Pharmacy to MBAs, from Medical School post docs to Law School students, KUCTC continues to successfully expand its interactions with students and to assist these students protect their own intellectual property. KUCTC has developed student overview information specifically designed to assist students in the process of completing the student invention disclosure questionnaire. KUCTC staff are available to meet with students to discuss the intellectual protection process and assist with completion of the invention disclosure forms.
